Don’t leave me home! Dog friendly Vacations in East Tennessee
Man’s best friend is one of our favorite traveling companions. Can you bring your pup with you? Yes, the 9 Lakes Region of East Tennessee is known for its dog friendly trails, parks, and dining venues.
Planning a trip begins with dog friendly lodging. There are many websites out there to search for hotels, cabins, campgrounds, house rentals, and inns that have pet rooms. Pack your dog’s favorite blanket and toys to help him get comfortable in his home away from home. If you plan to do some swimming or hiking, pack a dog towel to use after a day of activity.
Trails are generally pet friendly. Only the Great Smoky National Park does not allow dogs on their trails. State parks will require that your pup is on a leash. A great outing will be one that offers uncrowded trails, water, and a place to stop for a snack after the hike. Some of our favorite places are Obed Wild and Scenic River Park followed by a snack at Hopyard; Norris Dam State Park with a snack at Clinch River Brewery; or downtown Cumberland Gap and an iced coffee for you at the Gap Creek Coffeehouse and a dip in the cold springs for your pet.
During the summer season, many of the marina patios welcome your pets. Sit and watch the boats go. Be sure to check the marina rules before you go.
At the end of a fun filled day, take the last walk to see the amazing sunsets before planning your next day’s adventure.
