Family Fun on Rainy Days
Sometimes it rains at the lake during your summer vacation. While we love our rainy days to read and relax, we also know that the kiddos may not be thrilled at staying inside. So, here are some family, fun suggestions of places to check out on a rainy summer day
Go Retro– An ice cold theater on a hot, rainy afternoon can melt away frowns. Popcorn and the latest blockbuster film on big screen is fun for families of all ages. Turkey Creek in Farragut, Regal Cinemas in downtown Knoxville, and the historic Ritz Theater in Clinton are just a few choices.
Go Underground– This region is known for the vast network of underground caves. It is estimated that there are some 8300 caves registered in Tennessee. During the summer, the caves not only are an escape from the summer heat, but also are a great stop on rainy day. The Lost Sea in Sweetwater, Tuckaleechee Caverns in Townsend, and Forbidden Caverns in Sevierville. Ticket prices range from about $20.00 to $25.00 per adults, $10- $13 for youth, and under the age of 3 is free.
Go to the Zoo, Aquarium or a drive a Safari Tour– If it is not raining buckets, then a day at the Knoxville Zoo, Ripley’s Aquarium of the Smokies, Briarwood Ranch Safari Park, or the Little Ponderosa Zoo offer family fun on a rainy day at the lake.
Take lots of pictures that you can share. By the end of the day, the clouds will clear and the blue smoke that the area is so well known for will appear.
One of the best things about the East Tennessee Lakes Region, is that there are so many different things to do and most are a short drive from you.
