A Season for Good Cheer
The Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens is a timeless reminder of the importance of finding joy and cheer when our lives are filled with demands. The book was written at a time of great social change, when holidays became less important to celebrate. The story illustrates that holidays are a spirit lifting time for everyone to come together, no matter our interests or our life’s journey. The “heart and soul” of the season can be found in the well-wishes we share with each other. It is said that Mr. Dicken led his life using the “Carol Philosophy.”
In the 9 Lakes Region, the “heart and soul” of our communities can often be found at seasonal events and holiday markets in large and small downtowns.
Strolling a holiday market, while meeting local craftsmen, artisan bakers, and listening to seasonal music is a simple way to rediscover your “Carol Philosophy.” A downtown is a place to share with people who come from many different backgrounds and interests. The simplicity of sharing a seasonal greeting with a stranger or purchasing a locally made gift spreads seasonal good cheer.
